XF86Config is the same file name all over. The only *real* differences is
between version 3.x and 4.x, where the entire way of doing things changed.
You also don't need to reboot to get X to re-read its config file, but you do
need to restart X. Use cntrl+alt+backspace to kill it.
There is a particular order in which Xfree86 looks for its config file. It
goes like this:
/etc/X11/<cmdline>
/usr/X11R6/etc/X11/<cmdline>
/etc/X11/$XF86CONFIG
/usr/X11R6/etc/X11/$XF86CONFIG
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4
/etc/X11/XF86Config
/etc/XF86Config
/usr/X11R6/etc/X11/XF86Config.<hostname>
/usr/X11R6/etc/X11/XF86Config-4
/usr/X11R6/etc/X11/XF86Config
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config.<hostname>
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config-4
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config
If you go down this list and look for each file in turn, the first one you
find will be the one you should need to edit unless there is a particular
file specified on the command line or in the startx script.
