I got it working!! ( mostly)
turns out I had to make a /tmp buffer
the commands were "mkfifo /tmp/audio" and "mkfifo /tmp/video"

and I had to kill ESD to get sound working

I was watching Dr. Strangelove at 29 FPS and it was great!

my robotech cd won't work though, I think because it has a menu at the start and you have to choose what to watch
