Too many reasons really to list...I haven't installed a distro except when
its for a friend who wants to try linux or because I need a quick development
environment...in which case I install RH7.1 and replace with and compile GNU
sourced gcc-2.95.3-2 and Glibc-2.2.4 and Binutils-2.11.2.
Otherwise for my production boxes I compile it all myself using the quick dev
environment described above. My system are much "tighter" in more ways that
one, and they are 100s of times more stable....Until the storm last ?month? I
had uptimes of 2 years on two of my boxes.
