As God Knows.......this would be my area of expertise
While from personal experience.....i have found that the best platform
for gaming (fps rates) has been Windows 98 when compared to everything
I've seen quake ported to. (Various distros of Linux, Sun, Mac, Win2K,
WinXP,..etc.) However, I have found the Linux platform to interact with
my video card & chipset (NVIDIA TNT2) much better then the newer distros
of Windows.
If you love those 1st person shooters and the strategy games........then
Linux is the way to go. If you're like me and are a big sports
nut....keep a win98 partition for optimal gaming performance.
For finding some good quality demos....check out
the specialize in porting windows games to the linux platform to utilize
the better hardware interaction. (and open source)
keep in mind that they filed for chapter 11 over the summer
(chapter 11 != bankrupt)

Jim, very curious how Q3 (or any 1st person shoot 'em up) plays on
Linux.
Being a gamer on Windows, I was never quite satisfied with the game play
and maybe never will be. But I'm curious how Q3 plays on Linux. And
now
that my home PC lost its motherboard, I'm taking the opportunity to
upgrade
and reload the OS. I'm leaning heavily towards Linux right now. Any
thoughts? How about on video production/editing applications on Linux?
Any suggestions on motherboard/CPU combinations?
Thanks.
Jim

Hey!
I picked up two linux games at the Best Buy on Dale Mabry last night.
Quake
3 and Railroad Tycoon 2. They were $9.99 each, in the same area as the
distros. They had two of each (Now, they have one of each)
Jim :)
