Subject: [SLUG] multiple dependencies

I am trying to upgrade to the lastest kernel kernel-2.4.9-12 from 2.4.2 to
correct the vulnerabilities in the existing one and I am running into so
many dependencies that I am feel like I am in a spider web. I am using
rpm -ihv to installthe new kernel and then rpm -U to upgrade the
dependencies.

Is there a way of upgrading kernels that is easier than doing it file by
file and getting deeper and deeper into dependencies??

for instance, when I tried to install gcc-2.96-85 I was told that it needed
cpp-2.96-85 and when I tried to rpm that in I was told that cpp-2.96-81 was
needed by gcc-2.96-81 which is what I am trying to Upgrade,,

Do I need to put all the dependencies on one line with my rpm -U command??

Help?
