OK, this is an off topic question about X-10 but many of you here are
familiar with X-10 and UPS'.
I recently purchased an APC ES 500 [for $30.00 you can't go wrong] and
plugged it into an outlet. There is no X-10 device on the UPS.
Now when I try to shut off light A7 both remotes and wired X-10 controllers
fail. I can shut off A5, A6, and A8. Not only are all of these devices on
the same phase, but some of these devices are even on the same circuit.
If I unplug the UPS (Again, no X-10 device is on the UPS) I can use both
remotes and wired controllers to shut off A7. If I move the UPS to a
different outlet, the X-10 device that fails change. I have moved the UPS
to a different room and A7 works, but A2 does not.
So, what gives? I know that the UPS itself should kill an X-10 signal as
part of it's line conditioning. But that should only be relevant to
devices on the UPS and not the house wiring.
[All right, I will make it on topic. The serial port of the UPS is
attached to my Linux server. Happy?]
