Your soundcard chipset is listed at
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/ as being supported
(alsa-project.org is the place to go if you are in need of Linux sound
modules). RedHat has a GUI config utility, just look for it in KDE's
menu. I don't use KDE, but I guarantee you if you look around in the
menus, you'll find it (you may have to log into KDE as root in order
for it to show up on the menus--that means at the graphical log-in
screen that you see when you boot your computer, *not* "su" in a
terminal window). Just look for a category like "system" or
"configuration" or "sound configuration" or something like that.
You'll have to use your common sense to find it. From that
configuration utility, you should be able to install your soundcard.
If the configuration utility doesn't have the module you need, the
module can be downloaded from

http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php3?company=Yamaha&card=&chip=OPL3-SA3&module=opl3sa2

Follow the instructions at that link to set up the module. Definitely
go with the modules, ignore all the crap about recompiling the kernel!
This means that you will "build" the modules (easy) and then just
execute them whenever you start up your computer. The instructions are
step by step.

I have not studied the link below, but you may like to have it just in
case:

BTW, that TNT card you have probably only has generic drivers that
won't be optimized for 3-D performance. If you notice that games or 3D
apps run like crap (if you have any) you need to download the drivers
from nVidia's site and install them yourself. It's not hard, I just
did it myself for my GeForce 4 Ti 4200, I can help you with that too
later if you need it. nVidia has awesome Linux support unlike other
graphics companies, so if you ever upgrade, stick with them (they also
have the best hardware on the market, a real friggin' lucky break for
Linux people). If you don't have 3D apps, don't worry about it.

Saying that the constitution is a "living, breathing document" is the same thing as saying that there is no constitution. How would you like to play poker with rules that are "living?" (Walter Williams, Rush Limbaugh Show, 17 June 2002 broadcast)
