As root, try using /sbin/chkconfig (read the man pages)
I recommend turning off rsh, rlogin, talk, finger, ftp and telnet.
Use ssh and scp
For the services of ipchaines/iptables you can select your option.
If you use the command /sbin/service iptables
then the option 'save' will store the current configuration for use to reboot.
