[SLUG] Replacement for Hyper-Terminal

Hi All and a happy holidays

I have a set of files that must be transfered to&from my notebook from&to a
specialized process control non Windows or non Linux computer by means of a
null modem cable through a serial port.

This action cane easily be performed by means of Hyper Terminal in Windows.

I would appreciate a little help in the form of:
"What program in Linux may possible be used to accomplish the same action?"
