Mike,
Just use rsync. It is easier than mounting a drive and then copying.
And it is completely unattended. I use it every night to do just what
you are trying to do.

According to the man page for export I should be able to do a
no_root_squash. Then root should be able to mount the file system from
nfs. This is not the case for me. I want to backup a drive to another
drive. So I need to mount / as root.
