Find your equivalent of /etc/rc.d/rc.modules (BCD style) and
enable:
### USB Host Controllers:
# Universal Host Controller Interface (Intel standard):
/sbin/modprobe usb-uhci
# USB "Human Interface Device" driver; handles most USB mice, joysticks,
# gamepads, steering wheels, keyboards, trackballs and digitizers.
/sbin/modprobe hid
# Joystick input:
/sbin/modprobe joydev
And whatever else it takes, including whichever of the drivers you
show it takes to make it work.
