I don't see why Linux couldn't boot from a USB drive.  Of course, your BIOS
would have to be able to boot from a USB device.

I saw at best buy a notebook called Averatec.  Does anybody have any
experience with this notebook?  If I loaded RH 9 on it, will I find drivers
that work with the internal drives? 
Everything is built inside.  The only thing it does not have is a floppy
drive.  I can buy a usb floppy drive.  The other thing is, will linux boot
from a usb floppy drive?
