adding uid=500 (thanks Ian) and changing the permissions on the /mnt/shared
stub (thanks Austin) fixed it. it's interesting watching the folder stubs'
permissions change right when I mount the SMB filesystem. why can't it just
leave it the same? guess it doesn't matter... it works :)
