I've been dealing with this same issue on a Linksys Etherfast 10/100 PC Card
(PCMCIA) model PCMPC100 on another LUG list. So far ( I haven't had time to
diddle around with a recompile ... maybe this weekend ... it's a SLOW laptop)
the best short-term fix I've been able to come up with is to reboot to the
2.4 kernel.

2.6 (as installed) has "issues" with PCMCIA ethernet cards but 2.4 works just
fine. I suspect that future revisions of 2.6 will also work just fine, too.
