Similarely, I also noticed that if I had an empty cd drive it would try very
hard to load a cd anyway. It seems that artsd has a similar problem. It did
go away with FC2. Except under FC2 the virtual SCSI driver does not work.
Killing the ability to effectively burn CDs.
To handle artsd I shot it a SIGHUP signal 'kill -HUP <Process ID>'.
