cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com/) actually gives you a unix/linux-like
shell environment on a windows box that you can use ssh, X, and many
other linux programs. I used this for a long time to start local KDE
sessions from my SuSE 9 server on my win 2000 box. no head, keyboard,
or mouse on the server. the previous post about some machines hiccuping
if you don't have these things attached is true, but if you are familiar
with the bios of the machine, you can usually ( not always....some
bioses are very simple and don't have this option ) disable the keyboard
and mouse check on boot. when you do the cygwin install, make sure you
look over the available packages and select X, ssh, and whatever else
applies. after you install, you can simply type "startx" at the cygwin
prompt and it opens X, two terminals and a clock ( which can all be
changed). from there you can ssh into a box ( may need the -X argument
to enable X forwarding ) and once there type X commands like "startkde"
or whatever. hope this helps!! :^)
