The difference in ease of install between Debian Testing one year ago and
today is vast. A month ago, I did a Sarge net install (beta 4?, can't
remember) and it was a piece of cake, and I could have accomplished it
without knowing linux. It set up a beautiful KDE 3.2 Desktop (ahem far
better looking than out-of-the-box Gnome window manager), but even Gnome
looked okay out of the box. It actually did a better job than Suse 9.1 at
setting up both a fully functional KDE and a Gnome (plus other) Desktop with
no later configuration. Plus nothing's disabled like Xine as in Suse 9.1.
For my Windows replacement folks, though, it's still going to be Suse 9.1,
just because Yast makes it very easy for me to walk them though printer
installs over the phone, and it is harder for them to break things and the
available packages are in less flux, taking the variables out of
troubleshooting.
