WTTA (WB38) is transmitting a digital signal. They are just not at high
power. In their transmitter, where the high power IOT tubes are suppose to
be, is a cable that goes from the driver amplifiers to the output. I would
guess that would put them at about 800 to 1000 watts. This is transmitter
output power. You would then subtract the transmission line loss (about 1600
to 1700') and then multiply by antenna gain to get their ERP.
The company that owns them, also owns a company that manufactures TV
transmitters (Acrodyne or Ai). They were not real happy with the digital
transmission standard 8VSB.
They just replaced their analog transmitter with a brand new one. (I
installed their old one about 15 years ago.) It would seem like they still
believe analog is going to be around for awhile. Currently most all the
revenue is from the analog channels.
In the beginning was HDTV, then it evolved to DTV (digital tv instead of high
definition tv)
Some of network programming is in high definition, but most just pass thru
whatever the networks are sending them. Most upconvert their regular channel
to high def. The cost of the equipment has come down quite a bit, so more
programming is coming.
