Okay, I was doing some reading up (a lot of my heavy XFS usage comes
from early 2001 to late 2002), and the release in the stock kernel is
not full. SGI basically split the codebases into two as I mentioned
(one for "support," the other for the actual "filesystem"), but it's
still debateable how well it is supported on 2.4.
The first complete implementation seems to be 2.4.22, but there are a
_lot_ of patchsets from SGI for that as well as latter releases.
Looking through the changelogs, there is a _lot_ that is touched for 2.4
compared to 2.6. In a nutshell, I regularly remembered comments on the
list in 2001-2002 that even the smallest change to the 2.4 kernel used
to seriously affect SGI "support" patches.
I'll have to research more, but there seems to be a _lot_ of post-stock
2.4 patches for XFS.
