Residents of Slugadonia:

I'm forwarding this email from Wayne Pollock, the person who has
been responsible for allowing Tampa meetings to take place at HCC. Wayne
has done a tremendous job, and taken a lot of his personal time to
convince the powers that be at HCC to allow us to meet there.

I've been running the Tampa meetings (the original first regularly
scheduled SLUG meetings) for almost six years now. I've alluded to it
before, but let me make it official: I don't want to run the Tampa
meetings any longer. I already run the Dunedin meetings, and I commute
two hours a day just to get to work. Driving out to Tampa and running
Tampa meetings is more than I want to commit to at this point. (I know,
I'm scum for bugging out at this point. Sorry, but I do a lot of other
things for SLUG, and I actually do have a life. Hopefully, you can
forgive this one slip-up. ;-)

There has been some discussion about alternate places to meet in Tampa.
You folks who meet there need to determine whether you want to continue
at HCC or meet elsewhere. You also need to find a volunteer to run the
meetings. If you're going to continue to meet at HCC, I'd seriously
consider changing to Tuesday to accommodate Wayne. Otherwise, his HCC
folk can't make the meetings. Also note that, in the absence of rebuttal
from Wayne, there will likely continue to be jumping around of meeting
rooms at HCC.

In any case, if you want to continue to meet in Tampa, you need to do
two things:

1) Decide on a meeting place.
2) Find a volunteer to run meetings.

The SLUG Announce list will not accept posts from members, but the main
SLUG list will. So you're free to discuss and decide.

SLUGgers,

The Hillsborough Community College Student government
association met Thursday 9/9. I turned in the application
and presented the case, and its official: The HCC
Dale Mabry Campus Linux Computer Club is official! This
club is open to both students and non-students, especially
SLUG members. You are invited to attend and even run
the meetings. I think it'll be a real benefit to my students
to participate in SLUG meetings.

What's left to do is pick a schedule of meetings through
next August, when we have to repeat the application
procedure. Once we have dates pick out I can reserve a
room for each meeting.

I was wondering how SLUG would feel moving the meetings
to Tuesday nights instead of Wednesday nights? My
Unix/Linux administration classes are on Wednesday nights
so neither I nor my students can attend. But Tuesday
nights (at least for this semester) are free for me and
my students. If this is OK I will attempt to schedule
meetings for the next year, or as far in the future as
we can.

Please discuss the meeting day here (the SLUG mailing list),
I will watch and make a Tuesday/Wednesday decision after I
see what the follow-ups are.

At the first meeting the L.C.C. will need to elect officers
and ratify the club constitution. While the L.C.C. is open
to everyone only students can vote or be officers. I don't
think this will delay the SLUG meeting much.

SLUGgers, please feel free to register yourself on the
new L.C.C. website: http://lcc.hcc-online.com/

Welcome back to Tampa!

-Wayne
