In slackware which kernel are you using. 2.4 or 2.6 and if it is 2.4
are you using bareacpi.i kernel bare.i kernel
if your p3 support speedstep disable it first in the bios. I have had
my old p3 laptop cause linux to freeze due to speedstep ( the technology
of the processor going slower when the it is on battery and faster when
pluged into the ac.
