A couple ways have worked for me:

Install WinXP normally. Boot into XP then defrag the drives. Boot into the Mandrake
(mandriva??) installer and resize the XP partition and write the partitiion table.
Boot with your desired Linux installation disks and install. Boot into XP and
chkdsk.

Another method:
Boot into Linux installation. Create two partitions. Boot into XP installation and
install to the first partition. Boot into Linux installation and carve up the second
partition if desired.
