I prefer the KDE apps and look if I had to choose between Gnome/KDE. KDE has also
been more stable for me. It also seems a little more polished. For example, the icon
sets are pretty consistent whereas some of the gnome icons have 3D in some, 2D in
others. No difference in usability, but just looks rough.
This said, my desktop of choice is Fluxbox. I can still (and do) run KDE apps quite
often though. Most often Konqueror in both file manager and web browser modes, k3b,
and some miscellaneous tools.
