Haven't had that problem, but what I'd probably do is

- boot with "init=/bin/sh" and try to read from and write to all the
   partitions. If that works, the problem is in the files somewhere. Else,
   you have a filesystem problem.

- see if you can determine by watching the boot sequence where it hangs up.

- find out which package(s) that uses and "rpm --Verify" them.
