You boot the disc, and it works on the hard disk drive. It works below the
file system, so there is no need to make a partition. It fixes the disk,
and you put it back in the Mac.

Sounds great. Where do I get this bootable CD, and where can it store the
recovered files? Do I need to make a new partition and format it as FAT32?
There's no mkfs.ntfs AFAIK, so I'm limited to 64M or whatever mkfs.msdos
says.
