The way I usually do this is: use XMMS, write down the minute/second of each song split, use XMMS's DiskWriter plugin to make a wav, use wavsplit to split the wav.
However, there's an app (free) called audacity( http://audacity.sf.net ) that, I think, will do ALL of this in GUI.
