I've been reading the mail re the courses. It's certainly
interesting, but somehow I wonder if it can even get off the
ground. Sorry, I don't mean to be negative, but this is a lot
of work, and it's hard to get real live people to step up to the
plate.
I'd like to throw a couple of ideas into the pot:
First, can we make a "SLUG Linux project" out of it? Is there
any Linux "whiteboard" software out there? (Did somebody say
VNC?) Streaming audio from the instructor? (Optional: what
about those video camera thingies? Maybe the instructors face
is, optionally, in a small window. Yes, it's jerky video, but
who cares). And the whole group is connected and interactive-of
course, feedback to the instructor is via keyboard. a la chat.
Is this possible? Will the geek-appeal of setting up, and
using, a training system in this manner make the actual courses
more appealing? And I mean more appealing for both teacher and
students.
Can a course delivered like this be archived and available for
future study? I think an instructor might be willing to put
more into it if it's "re-usable".
Second, definitely, don't be too ambitious. A rough course
outline is ok, but after that, just add content whenever you can
do so.
