This is driving me completely loco. I have the latest SANE/Plustek
drivers installed as per instructions. I also have all the usb stuff
compiled in (other usb device works fine) and have compiled "usb
scanner" as a module, but I can't get the scanner module to load for the
usb scanner.
when I try (as root)
#modprobe scanner vendor=0x04b8 product=0x011d
I get:
----
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r1/kernel/drivers/usb/scanner.o: init_module:
Operation not permitted
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r1/kernel/drivers/usb/scanner.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r1/kernel/drivers/usb/scanner.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r1/kernel/drivers/usb/scanner.o: insmod
scanner failed"
------
But the usb system recognizes my scanner (here is the truncated cat
/proc/bus/usb/devices output, notice it says driver=none):
------
P: Vendor=04b8 ProdID=011d Rev= 1.00
S: Manufacturer=EPSON
S: Product=EPSON Scanner

I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=00 Prot=ff Driver=(none)

E: Ad=03(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
-------
I also use a usb flash card reader that loads fine.
As you might have guessed, sane-find-scanner -v finds nothing.
/var/log/kernel says:
------

assigned address 3Apr 19 14:46:01 [kernel] usb.c: USB device 3

and dmesg says the same thing. Does anyone know any way to troubleshoot
this? thank you!
