I need a little advice if you can spare it, and it's probably obvious to the
experts, so here goes. I'm trying to connect my two boxes so I can transfer
files via NFS directly with no hub between them, just an ethernet cable
connecting their two network cards. They currently can't ping eachother.
Here's what I've done:
1) I set up my old box as funkytux.ejahn.net (alias funky) with static IP
10.0.0.1 and ifconfig eth0 reports it as set correctly
2) Is set up my new box as 64funky.ejahn.net (alias 64funky) with static IP
10.0.0.2
my subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
3) I didn't set the gateway, should I?
When I ping one to the other, it the console just waits and doesn't return
anything until I hit ctrl+c, and then it reports all the packets sent were
dropped. It does not say "network unreachable" as it first did before I set
up the hosts. Am I missing something? Thanks!
