Regarding the SCSI, what does dmesg show? Does it show something like
this for the adapter:

scsi0 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 6.2.36
        <Adaptec 29160 Ultra160 SCSI adapter>
        aic7892: Ultra160 Wide Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 32/253 SCBs

Along with attached devices:

(scsi0:A:1): 10.000MB/s transfers (10.000MHz, offset 15)
  Vendor: ARCHIVE Model: Python 04106-XXX Rev: 743B
  Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
  Vendor: QUANTUM Model: ATLAS10K2-TY092L Rev: DDD6
  Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
  Vendor: QUANTUM Model: ATLAS10K2-TY092L Rev: DDD6
  Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
