I'm running two WRT54G and two WRT54GS access points in a WDS mesh at my
home with the latest Sveasoft release pre3.11.
There are real chipset problems with the broadcom driver that they have
yet to resolve: the wireless will randomly drop for no reason for
varying period of time, unless you have the watchdog "workaround"
enabled that changes the channel if there are no associated peers.
The next version, Alchemy, due out soon, should run a number of the
other Broadcom reference design based products as well.
The security problem in question was a problem with the Linksys' default
firmware config. If you're running the Sveasoft firmware, this isn't an
issue.
