We need to compile xvidcap/gvidcap by hand. Gvidcap appears to be
sexier, but Robin's laptop lacks or has certain GTK2 libraries in a
different location than where the precompiled version wants to find
them. I found this to be a most useful reference for xvidcap:

It was kind of cool to make video screen captures and even more
entertaining when we were impatient and clicked too many times on the
playback; we opened three or four instances and punished the laptop's
hardware.
All the while, we were absorbing an excellent, live rendition of the
hdparm man page by Bish. Multitasking at its best, or worst, depending
on your point of view ;-)
