Amen to that! I'm having the same trouble with my debian system.
Interestingly, my problem is that I have the java-vm, which points to
kaffe, which I believe is a free implementation of java...but it still
doesn't work.
I've been asking on the debian-powerpc list, but haven't happened upon a
solution. I'm thinking about asking the KDE people about this,
shortly...
